for the takarakuji, you pay the tax on the bets not the gains.
it’s a much easier and cheaper way to collect tax. they should do the same for horse racing.

The tax we were referring to in the post was a tax on winnings, not a tax on the ticket itself. There is no tax on lottery winnings in Japan the way there is in the U.S., for instance.

The takarakuji tax is already payed when you buy the ticket. its 50%.
