The tax is going to increase deflation, not lessen it.

How could it not?

Now, I do think the super-strong yen of the recent past had a lot to do with stable/falling prices, so we’ll see what prices do in the new Abe/Kuroda printing regime.

But ISTM Japanese consumers are pretty tapped out, so if inflation just hits energy and food costs, well, everything else is going to have to fall more.
