Yes the trainees receive far lower salaries but then do not forget that their brokers get the rest. A trainee receives say, 70,000 yen a month for working 8 hrs. Even if lunch and apartment is free, still the broker gets more knowing that they stuff 3 or 4 or even more trainees in an apartment. Trainee system is very much abused and contribute to unemployment among the residents.

Every country I’ve been to is more or less the same towards cheap foreign labor. Japan is not the racist nation you claim when you compare it to China , European countries, USA, etc. China is not exactly guilt free of the thing you find offensive about Japan.
