Uniqlo rocks the T-shirt

Madonna did it with H&M, Kate Moss did it with Top Shop and now Puffy Ami Yumi are doing it in Uniqlo.

To coincide with their latest album release, titled “Bring It,” the Japanese female duo have created a range of T-shirts that each represent a track from the album. It’s a nice gimmick: “Twilight Shooting Star” is a nice deep blue T-shirt spangled with stars, and “Doki Doki” (heart pounding) is emblazoned with some pulse-raising kittens. Unlike Moss and Madonna’s ranges, with T-shirts costing just ¥1,500, Uni Qlo’s offerings are within reach of teenybopper budgets.

Indie pop icon Nomiya Maki, formerly of Pizzicato Five fame, is also getting in on the UT act, as is Modular Records, who also has its own funky range, including New Young Pony Club T-shirts.

Last summer Uniqlo managed to corner the T-shirt market with their limited edition T’s cleverly packaged in plastic cylinders. This year’s range of cunning music industry tie-ins shows they’re still ahead of the game.
