Thanks for the feedback. Interesting. I suspect that people using Facebook primarily as a business tool would be even more hesitant than "social" users to use their pages for announcing check-ins and deals. What do you think?

I agree the coupon gambit might not fly just for lack of decent deals (and the potential to annoy). Like Jeremy, however, I've found that most of my Japanese friends who have migrated to Facebook are active, enthusiastic, mainly business-centric users who find the anonymity of sites like Mixi to actually be an impediment to the effective use of social networking media. Those who use both Facebook and Mixi inevitably make a distinction in how they use the two platforms, with very little "bleed" between their groups of friends on one or the other.

I am Indonesian who is studying in university in Japan. I think it will take a very long time to make shops meet their high target of sales by making coupon through facebook. In Japan, facebook has not popular yet because Japanese still unfamiliar with its format. They have to learn how to use facebook first before start to check in, use the coupon, and tag their friends. I think Facebook should release guiding book how to Facebook-ing first than making agreements with shops.
I think comparing with Japan, Indonesia has more facebook user. Why don`t facebook try to do this coupon system in Indonesia? I bet it will gain more profit in the both side, Facebook and shops. Indonesia has so many gourmet and good place with different taste of food. And we spend almost our free time to get online in facebook. Maybe we could say more active, more check-in, and more coupon. And I think we can say this a real win-win-win.
