Tonchidot, the company behind Sekai Camera raised $4M in December!
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/12/08/tonchidot-sekai-camera-funding/

You should try Layar, a (non-Japanese) AR iPhone app with already more than 25 dedicated Japanese layers to search for anything from Leisure spots, onsens, AED machines, Hospitals, Shopping, Gourmet, Art exhibitions (using Tokyo Art Beat's data of course ;-), Shinkansen, banks, conbinis etc...

February's Japan Media Arts Festival at the National Art Center, Tokyo ( http://www.tokyoartbeat.com/event/2009/0EF0 ) have just released an iPhone app similar to the Mitsuo Aida Museum's, that will locate you in the space of the exhibition and guide/inform you on what is on show and schedules of the movies playing.
